Amit - I am from the “regular” biased group who would watch (EIE)/read(TIU) /listen(TSTU) anything that comes out of Varma stable… but I kind of agree on dwelling into varied topics … even if you are not an expert on it … and even in the ones that we feel we are expert in we change our minds anyways over the years as we know more ….
As I reading one of your recommendations right now the “super forecasters” it kind of reaffirms this point , have “a tablespoon of doubt “ even if you think you know the topic well ……
And want to end with a request … the poker episode was just too short …. Please please please can you do a deeper one .. or probably more on the statistics you explain there …..
Also an occasional guest on the show might be fun….. from mohit to Naren to Shruti to Deepak shenoy you have a big group of super interesting friends
We could all do with authentic content which is vulnerable and creates a connect rather than listening in to perfectly researched topics. Of the perfectly researched ones, Acquired is a favourite and works because it has a defined field of reference (stories about business and leaders in business) and Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal present those journeys in the most vivid and authentic fashion by deploying stories, busting myths, transporting you back to the decade they are referencing with public quotes thrown in. But then for that you got the Seen and Unseen :)
I appreciate you sharing the internal disagreement. As much as I appreciate Ajays expertise, I felt like I truly saw him in the declutter episode where he was looser as you say. I was moved in that moment and would like more such freewheeling, back and forth discussions.
I spent an entire evening arguing with a friend that Chatp GPT-4 and the evolution of AI in the next 5-10 years is not armageddon for the human race. Your article explains the reasons. We humans have this insane ability to construct non-logical threads of relative interest into confounding narratives. The more humans that do this, the better we are... this is why diversity is especially important. Thanks for writing this post, buddy!
Not looking to go ad hominem, but I wonder if this is something that comes with academic training - a refusal to comment outside of something that one hasn’t deeply researched
Hi, Amit you motivated me to start writing again. It has made a great difference to my life. You brim with positivity and hope (the kind that is realistic and should be had). Thank you for everything. You check out my substack blog as well and critique it privately in a message if you can make time for that. If you don't, that's fine too.
I have been watching everything is everything from ep1 till ep 34 almost like meeting my morning walk friends, usually within half an hour of uploading the episode. Ajay is a friend, though he may not remember me. The common link is kelkar. you are a friend because of the seen and the unseen. I live far away in uttarakhand hills. Come and shoot a few episodes in our home. Ajay may like a small trek to devrani tal. affectionately, Bibhu Mohapatra.
I also feel somewhat similar to to what Idris has written above. A discussion is always helpful in running a hopefully show like this. There is always a danger of getting repetitive when two people talk about the things they know. I am glad that you have agreed to experiment and do a bit more of a freewheeling discussion. I did lately feel that the discussion were getting a bit rehearsed and studied. Looking forward to seeing some freshness. After all even experts should be humble and not always sure of their knowledge. Cheers
